More on Dytiscus marginicollis-the green, giant, predacious, diving beetle

The mouthparts of the green, giant predacious diving beetle include the mandible that crushes and rips apart the prey. The maxillae are like a spoon and fork that push the food into the mouth. Although this seems somewhat grisly, it is important to recall all of us predators do the same thing. Enough said.

Next is the mouth itself and the differences in male and female lags.
